Funding Options

Support for Student Initiated Programs

Associated Students of the University of Arizona
ASUA offers funding to Recognized Student Organizations who have undergraduates as the majority of their members. Information on how to get funding and other ASUA benefits is available on their website.

Graduate and Professional Student Council
GPSC offers funding to Recognized Student Organizations whose majority membership is graduate students.

Sports Clubs
Organizations who identify themselves as Sports Clubs may contact Campus Recreation, 621-4709, for funding possibilities.

The Student/Faculty Interaction Program
Your faculty advisor will need to help you secure this funding. Another option would be for your organization to ask a favorite professor to work with your group as a sponsor.

WHAT: The Student/Faculty Interaction Program was established over ten years ago in response to research that shows the more contact student have with faculty, the more likely they will persist in school and graduate. The program provides funds to faculty for various activities with students outside the classroom allowing participants to interact in a more social setting. In previous years, faculty members have hosted trips, excursions, “get togethers” at faculty homes, brown bag lunches, exam review sessions, night at the opera, field trips, and a wealth of other activities.

HOW: Applications can be picked up and returned to the Dean of Students Office, Old Main 203. All applications will be evaluated by the following criteria:

  • The quality of interaction likely to occur between students and faculty as a result of the program. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated on their intellectual and social merits, with neither taking precedence.

  • Inclusion of, but not limited to, new students to the University. The following priorities will be followed:
    1. Freshman and new transfers have top priority
    2. Underclassman over upperclassman
    3. Undergraduate over graduate.
  • The reasonableness of the amount of funding requested. “Reasonableness” is defined as no more than $7.00/per participant.

  • Faculty and/or graduate teaching assistants with grading responsibilities must initiate or sponsor the proposals. Non-academic units may submit proposals with a faculty co-sponsor. Priority will be given to professors who teach introductory courses.

DEADLINES: Because the demand for the monies has exceeded the total amount allocated for the program, application deadlines have been established to maximize the total number of grants awarded. The annual appropriation of funding will be split across five application deadlines. Call the Dean of Students Office, 621-7059 or the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership 621-8046 to get a list of the application deadlines.

DETAILS: In preparing your application, thoroughly plan your event and contact all vendors to be certain your plans are acceptable to them. Our office can advise you of steps to take, but will not make any arrangements for your event. For further questions, call 621-7059.

    3. The Requester must present a formal proposal for monetary support at an RHA General Body meeting at least three (3) weeks in advance of the date the money is needed by.
    4. In the event that any one of these provisions is not met, the RHA Executive Board reserves the right to postpone or deny the Requester’s presentation.

Sponsoring Vendors
Sponsoring Commercial Activity on the mall is a benefit to being a recognized student organization at the University of Arizona. Sponsorship, in one word, is fundraising. Bringing an approved vendor to the mall allows your group to earn money. Examples of vendors include, but are not limited to, jewelry, clothing, credit cards and hand made crafts. Vendors not only pay a student organization for sponsorship, they also pay a mall use fee. Student organizations can earn an average of $50–$100 per day.

Step by Step to sponsoring a Vendor on the Mall

  1. The Student Organization approaches or solicits vendors to sponsor.
  2. Bring the name of the vendor and space request to Campus Use & Mall Scheduling.
  3. Wait for approval from mall scheduling.
  4. Follow the mall sponsorship policy (see the Policy section of the Handbook)

AND/OR

  1. Ask to be added to the “sponsorship” list in Campus Use & Mall Scheduling.
  2. Wait for a call from the Campus Use & Mall Scheduling Office.
  3. Choose whether or not you are interested in the offer the vendor presents.
  4. Work with Diane Newman in the Campus Use & Mall Scheduling Office to complete appropriate paperwork.

For more information please stop by the Campus Use & Mall Scheduling Office in MSU 404 or call 626-2630.

• Each club, whether alone or paired with another club, sells food, drinks, or games at a booth on the Spring Fling field.

What are the expectations of the clubs and organizations?
• There should be one or more representatives from your club who will be responsible for finding workers in your club, attending meetings, filling out paperwork, and maintaining a positive attitude among workers!
