Eat Like A CHAMP

Eat Like a CHAMPTM is a nutrition program designed to help identify food choices for a winning performance.  Physically active students can quickly choose foods to aid in their specific training and performance goals.  The Eat Like a CHAMP program is available at Bear Down Kitchen and IQ Fresh. You can also find the delicious CHAMP smoothie at IQ Fresh and CHAMP Bars at Nrich Urban Market.  

Look for the Eat Like a CHAMPTM icon on the Nutrition Calculator to identify food and beverage options containing all 5 letters of CHAMP.

Nrich is the Student Unions Nutrition Philosophy. The Arizona Student Unions Culinary Services team is committed to a philosophy that ensures students, faculty and staff are given delicious and nutrient dense food options.

Our Nutrition Philosophy:

  • Whole grains are used to increase fiber and nutrients.
  • Healthier fats including monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fats are utilized.
  • Plant-centered plate using whole foods that are minimally processed are emphasized.
  • Natural flavors, spices, herbs and seasonings are used to limit added salt and sugar.
  • Variety of foods available to accommodate food allergens and celiac.
  • Vegetarian and vegan options are available with plant-based choices always offered where meat-based protein items are served.
  • Menus are transparent with nutrition information and ingredients available through our Nutrition Calculator.
  • Nutrition education classes and workshops are offered to help students and staff excel with health goals.
  • Executive Chef and Registered Dietitian ensure delicious, nutrient-dense foods are offered.

Our award winning culinary cultivation series designed to provide you with cooking skills along with nutrition education will begin in in the fall. Each month we will explore different foods, how to prepare them and their nutrition benefits. You will enjoy tasting the recipes senior executive chef prepares, receive recipe information and nutrition information provided by our Registered Dietitian Christine Carlson. Payment for classes can be made using Meal Plan, cash or credit. All payments may be made at Nrich Urban Market (located in SUMC Food Court just next to Einstein's Bagels). Classes are open to Students, Faculty & Staff.  If you are unable to attend a class but have already signed up, you may send someone in your place but we are unable to offer refunds. Each class is limited to 25 participants.

All classes are held at Student Union Memorial Center Sonora Room 143 (lower level) Culinary Studio. Workshops are offered at 5 pm.

FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education)

The University of Arizona is one of 12 universities to participate in the Food Allergen Research and Education (FARE) College Food Allergy pilot. Through this pilot, we have trained over 100 culinary staff and 200 residence advisors on food allergens.

Food Forward is a national, plant-based cooking training. Culinary Services and Arizona Dining were one of 15 universities to participate.
